Jeremy Rifkin - The Empathic Civilisation (50min)

We are taking a shift in world-view and consciousness, and we have to acknowledge and nurture it, if we want to survive as a species...

Bestselling author, political adviser and social and ethical prophet Jeremy Rifkin investigates the evolution of empathy and the profound ways that it has shaped our development and our society - and starts playing an ever more important role for our near future.

Don't miss this exceptional talk showing you the Bigger Picture of a change of world-view required for positive change www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-7BjeHepbA, and the steps for taking them.

We can make it! An excellent video to be used in changemaker trainings, school and higher education.

You can also view a "live, hand-drawn animated" 10 minute version @ www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7AWnfFRc7g&feature=channel. We've come across this at several live staged events, and find it's one fo the coolest communication innovations around.

Jeremy starts out with a short overview of economic and governmental collapse, and explains why the reason behind it are 19th century ideas for looking at the world.

Jeremy shows the jumps of world-view / idea of human nature / consciousness in human history (for example from theological to enlightenment etc.), and that today's society is developing a new, more realistic(!) and empathic world-view / view of human nature that was not possible on large scale for earlier societies.

We may challenge this, since the negative idea of greedy human nature used to be true for most of today's dominant hierarchical cultures, but not for the majority of traditional and indigenous cultures. This is why many changemakers interact and learn much from indigenous cultures. But since we have to change the dominant industrial cultures, let's continue on this trail...

"Neuropsychology shows us that we are actually soft-wired not for aggression, violence, self-interest and utilitarianism, but we are actually soft-wired for sociability, affection, companionship. The drive to actually belong."

Like babies join in when hearing other babies crying, and like many of us get a frown when seeing a spider on someone else's arm, a bad bloody wound - we feel with each other. The same neurons light up in our brains.

"How can we extend this empathy to the entire human race? If we are able to imagine that we might be able to save our species and restore the planet."

And - this is the best part - Jeremy shows us the steps that fundamentally changed consciousness in history, how they are already taking place today and how we can accelerate them.

The step towards global empathy is the essential step to also "make it" through the challenges of a dysintegrating unsustainable society model and restoring humanity, Earth and transforming ourselves and societies to new, functional, sustainable models.

Empathy is also the clear basis that makes a Social Entrepreneur, which has been recognised as the most dynamic innovation factor of socities in every regard - economic, social, environmental, educational...
