27 SEPTEMBER
Since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has celebrated World Tourism Day on September 27. This date was chosen as on that day in 1970, the Statutes of the UNWTO were adopted. The adoption of these Statutes is considered a milestone in global tourism. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and to demonstrate how it affects social, cultural, political and economic values worldwide.
Theme 2014: “Tourism and Community Development” focuses on the ability of tourism to empower people and provide them with skills to achieve change in their local communities.
We are not (yet) directly involved in community tourism projects, but we DO have a very special community that we support, AND we have lots of hero/ines protecting our precious planet, wildlife and people to make sure that our journeys are worthwhile. They are working on conservation in various parts of the world, and the activities involved are super exciting. They include fundraisers, petitions, campaigns, opportunity for “live” webcast meetings, opportunity for observing the project’s success unfold, and more.
We are working on our website. If you want to take action now, get in touch. We will quickly put together the information about our heroines and taking action!
